Meadow Creek runs to the west of the town, but the terrain is mostly flat. Homeowners in Grover Beach CA send their kids to three elementary schools in town, but must attend middle and high schools in other parts of the county. Retail, construction, the hospitality industry, research and professional services are the main professions in Grover Beach. Famous folks living in nearby Arroyo Grande include Lou Ferrigno, TV'sIncredible Hulk, Hairspray's Zac Efron and basketball player Horace Grant.
It all began in August of 1887, when D. W. Grover filed a claim at the courthouse for land that would become Grover Beach. He had dreams about the railroad terminating at the sea and formulated the tagline "where the tide lands and the rails meet". Almost 100 years later, Amtrak made the dream real. Mr. Grover laid out the streets and set aside land for the establishment of a hotel, train station and a park. No one was interested in his plans, but other people advertised the town as a nice place for the average Joe. That worked. The town grew and was incorporated in 1959.
